A Cat, a Life by Foley-Cox, Grade 5 and Projects, Bubble Gum and 2012 by Campbell Whalen, Grade 6.
A Cat, a Life
By Foley-Cox, Grade 5
A cat, a life
A piece of purring
Mouse-eating mammal
I hate the dog
The litter box
Sometimes
I just go on the floor
You may love me
But what a furniture bill
In vet papers it never says
Furniture assassin or living dread
Yet you love me
An uncensored human emotion
Guaranteed
I try but I must be on the naughty list
Because all I get is food and water in my bowls
------------
Projects, Bubble Gum, and 2012
Campbell Whalen, Grade 6
“Mmmm, this is good gum... oops!” There goes another failed resolution. Every year I think of stupid little resolutions that pretty much crash and burn at 12:01. This year, in the mighty, the magical, the somewhat scary 2012, I will master all my resolutions! I will (probably) break my gum habit and conquer my fear of the world ending in 2012 and maybe even start my held-off project!
I have a problem, or more like an addiction... to bubble gum. I don’t know why and I don’t know how, but I do. It bugs everyone in my family. On road trips while one pack of gum lasts them there and back, I require about five whole packs. Sometimes my dad tries to help me; he tells me to set a goal for myself, such as only four pieces a day, but it NEVER works. This year I hope it will all change. Even though I am chewing about five pieces of gum right now, I know I can do it.
My next resolution would definitely be to crush my fear of 2012. This one will probably be easy considering the new year is 2012. All I have to do to conquer my fear is at midnight on December 22, 2012, scream and plug my ears. If the world explodes... I die, I guess. But if it doesn’t, then my fear will vanish!
My last resolution will be hard, but I am determined to get it done. Over the summer I saw a fashion show that they host every year in Burlington. There is no age requirement so anyone can enter. When I got home, I started sketching. For Christmas, I asked for a dress form and fabrics. If I end up getting fabric, I will definitely start designing and making clothes.
2012 is going to be special. It’s the year I turn 13. It’s the year that everyone is saying they will change. It’s the year that my long put-off resolutions will be conquered. I know that 2012 is going to be a great year for me. Life is what you make it, so how will 2012 be for you?
