Striped Glory
by Ella Woodruff, grade 5

Hiding in the grass.
Stalking through shadows.
Orange and black and white.
Racing through the grass.
Invisible and silent.
Try and follow me with your eyes.
I dare you.
As soon as you locate me,
I’m gone.
Poor, frantic, little deer.
Try to outsmart me?
The greatest animal on Earth?
Me?
With stripes flashing through the the tall grass?
I am better at hiding than anything in the world.
I am better at anything than everything in the world.
I am a striped glory.
I am a tiger.

In the Forest
by Mason Otley, grade 5

They jump up high and they stand
down low;
They are always on the go.
They don’t have time so they must
always say by;
They climb up the tree and they climb
up as high as I can see.
I don’t know where they go, but I know
that they are monkeys.
They can go anywhere they want even
if they do
A huge stunt.
This one monkey is my very favorite.
He is the smartest and he can never sit
still.
He climbs and jumps and hangs from
the branches.
That monkey seems like the best; he is
the one
That never sits still.
He is my favorite.

The Maple Tree
by Thomas Wright, grade 5

The maple tree
In the summer a home to bees
In the winter it sheds its leaves
In the spring full of sap
In the fall orange as all
Throughout the seasons strong and tall
The fall is its best season of all
The maple tree

The Monkey Above
by Audrey Schnell, grade 5

In a tree above
A monkey stands like a king
Looking at the others

He saw an apple
So he picked it off the branch
Then he took a bite

He climbed higher
Until he was at the top
Then he looked below

Under him he saw
Different monkeys together
Like a family

The Bird
by Alden Spell,
grade 5

Just one little bird
Delicately rests a while
On bamboo in China
Silence all around
The only sound is the wind rustling
In the breeze and the panda bear
Munching on bamboo

The Hunt
by Evan Beal, grade 5

Tiger stalks his prey
A black and orange shadow padding
through the night
Gently pressing down his paws, he
doesn’t make a sound
Tiger goes on, whiskers twitching
as they search the air for the
succulent
Scent of prey
Tiger stalks his prey
A black and orange shadow padding
through the night

Bamboo
by Zac Horgan, grade 5

You grow smooth and straight,
That is your fate

You stand up high,
Reaching close to the sky

You offer to the pandas yourself,
Your leaves as good as wealth
Of many you are a part,
Like a hidden piece of art

Under My Bed
by Elizabeth Emmons,
grade 5

Under my bed?
There’s nothing right now

But when night comes around
I hear creepy sounds
Like howling and growling and
bounding around

I don’t know what it is but it’s creeping
me out
Inside I want to scream and shout:
“I know you’re here; stop sneaking
about!”

I wake up in the middle of the night
I hear the noises so I turn on the light
And then a clue comes right into my
sight!

A little gray tail from under the bed
Causes a thought to pop into my head
And then I know what is under my bed
It isn’t something scary or red

For it is my dog
That I do spy

Out of the covers quickly I fly
Yelling loudly, “You sneaky little guy!”
