Woodruff Accepts Library Director Position
Woodruff Accepts Library Director Position

After completing a formal search process, the Charlotte Library Board of Trustees has appointed Margaret Woodruff as the new Library Director. Since February she has been serving as the library’s acting director in addition to continuing in her role as the Youth Services Librarian. Her appointment is effective this week.
Woodruff brings a wealth of experience to the position. Coming to the library with a background in museum education and museum collections management, she has served as the Youth Services Librarian here since 2004. In that position she has expanded the library’s programming for children, has been successful in securing a number of grants to enhance library service, and has been active on the state level with the Vermont Department of Libraries. She earned her undergraduate degree at Swarthmore College, holds a master’s degree from Harvard University, and is currently completing the Department of Libraries program to receive her certificate of public librarianship.
One continuing challenge for libraries is the blending of traditional library service with emerging technology. “The library is now about the conjunction of community and technology, giving the widest access possible for all,” Woodruff notes. Toward this end, she is spearheading the library’s transition into “new library software systems that will give patrons easier access to the library’s collections, both at the library and offsite, and help staff provide even better service.”
She is enthusiastic about continuing programs she has managed in the past, such as Vermont Reads and the kids’ summer reading program, and adding new ones. “Our staff really enjoys being able to share the library’s resources with the community.”
Woodruff lives in East Charlotte with her husband and three daughters, where she is an active gardener and avid reader.
