The original Charlotte Central School building, built in 1949, is due to be torn down the week of July 5. Rachel Marcotte Hutchins realized this would be the last chance to bring together her classmates from the 1950’s to see their old school and reminisce. Others have also shown an interest, so a visit to CCS has been scheduled for this Saturday morning, June 19.
People will meet by the main entrance at 11 a.m., and will be guided by PTO President Monica Marshall. Rachel has contacted folks from the classes of 1955 and 1956, some of whom will be coming from out of town. Others who attended CCS through the years are welcome to join us. Spread the word to your classmates, bring a picnic lunch and plan to linger a while to catch up.
For more information contact Rachel Hutchins at 425-2339 or Nancy Wood at 425-2761.
The building will not be available for access after this weekend. The contractor will begin asbestos removal on June 21, and it will be demolished in July. A new, building, on the old foundation, is due to be completed by September of 2011.
Collectors items from the old school building, such as the original wooden classroom doors, may be sold through an online auction at a later date to raise money for CCS.
