More Humorous Warden Stories Entertain All Ages, October 20, 2011.....

Charlotte writer Megan Price recently announced the release of Vermont Wild, Adventures of Fish & Game Wardens, Volume 2, a sequel to the popular first volume, which will be in stores October 25 in time for hunting-camp sharing and holiday gift giving.
The collection of new warden stories includes: 4WD, Stowe Turkey, Tick Trail, Fly Trap, Hard Times, Skinny Goose, Track Star, Havin’ Her Say and many more. Many of the stories take place along the shores of Lake Champlain.
“I am really pleased with the response to these stories,” said Megan. “Kids, hunters, people who would never pick up a gun - the stories appeal to them all. One of the things I like best is how these stories prompt senior Vermonters to start telling their own outdoor adventures.  I had one friend tell me her father, a retired farmer and man of very few words, left those at the Thanksgiving dinner table speechless last year after he told them he couldn’t put my book down and then shared some of his own stories his family had never heard. ‘We’d never heard dad talk that much in his life,’ she said.”
She continued, “The books bring people together to laugh and share their stories.  What’s better than that?  Everyone who reads the stories tells me they laugh and can identify with the predicaments the wardens get into.”
Retired Vermont wardens Eric Nuse of Johnson, Denny Gaiotti of Whiting, Stan Holmquist of Rochester, Howard Brown of Swanton and Richard Hislop of Fairfax contributed stories for this volume, the second in the Vermont Wild series.  The misadventures of Hislop’s  black lab deputy, Satan, figure prominently.
A former reporter, Meagan will continue to research warden stories. “I feel these stories are an important part of Vermont’s history and they should be preserved. There are so many good stories out there I intend to do at least one or two more books in this series.”
Volume 2 will be available at the Old Brick Store and Spears Corner Store, as well as the Flying Pig Bookstore and the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Brown Dog Books in Hinesburg and other locations. Megan is also using a stealth approach to book selling: “I try to place the book at non-bookstores to nab reluctant readers. Support for the books has been great, and I deeply appreciate it. It’s nice to have the book recognized as a part of our history.”
Artist Norma Montaigne of Pittsford illustrated each story, and Carrie Cook of Cambridge is the book’s designer. The award-winning Vermont Wild, Volume 1, was a best selling book for many independent bookstores in 2010, and is still selling well statewide and through the website.
