Here is a small sample of the more than 500 volunteer needs from more than 200 agencies you can find on-line at unitedwaycc.org. If you do not have computer access, or would like information about the volunteer opportunities below, call the United Way at 860-1677, Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

HELP CHILDREN – The Foster Grandparent Program is a great opportunity to mentor kids in a supervised environment!  Foster Grandparent volunteers help students in the classroom during the school day under the guidance of the classroom teacher.  Volunteers are needed in Winooski in kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades for the upcoming school year. Volunteers must be at least 55 years of age and love kids.  Great benefits, including a small non-taxable stipend are provided.

HELP END VIOLENCE – The Laura Kate Winterbottom Memorial Fund is seeking volunteers to help set up and staff Laura’s March to End Violence Toward Women.  On September 10 help pick up beverages and then on September 11 help arrange park tables, ice and water chests, etc. at Oakledge Park for the 5K walk/run.  Some heavy lifting.

COACH – Northeast Disabled Athletic Association is looking for a one-on-one coach to provide training drills for an individual with physical disabilities.  Activities would include setting up a wheelchair driving course, practicing skills needed for a power soccer team, etc.  Twice a month on Mondays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Burlington.

ARTS GURU NEEDED – ReSOURCE needs an enthusiastic, art savvy volunteer to oversee their new ArtCycle space consisting of barely used art supplies, industrial leftovers, craft materials, etc.  Orientation provided.  Flexible weekday and Saturday scheduling.

PULLING STRINGS – Puppets in Education invites community members to join their statewide educational puppet troupe.  No experience needed to reach children in an innovative way to teach them to be safe, healthy and to appreciate each other’s differences.  Training provided.
