Two More for State Rep: Robin Reid and Mike Kurt
Two More for State Rep: Robin Reid and Mike Kurt

June 3, 2010, page 1.....

Robin Reid is running as an Independent and Mike Kurt as a Democrat for State Representative for Chittenden District 1-2, which includes all of Charlotte and a section of Hinesburg. Scott Orr is stepping down after serving for three terms. Also running are Ed Stone for the Republican nomination, and Charles Russell and Mike Yantachka for the Democrat nomination.
Reid, who lives on Greenbush Road, is the editor/publisher of Rural Route Today, is a justice of the peace and served for many years on the Recreation Committee. She has organized many musical and other events in Charlotte, such as the well-attended forum with State Tax Commissioner Richard Westman earlier this year.
Kurt is a justice of the peace and would like to serve the community in an even more significant way. He works with people who are homeless and/or have issues of substance abuse and mental illness. He lives on Hills Point Road.
Others considering a run for the House seat may pick up a petition at the Town Clerk’s office. Petitions must be filed before 5 p.m. on June 17. This applies to Independent candidates as well as those running in the primary for their party’s nomination. In prior years the filing date for Independents was after the primary, making it possible for those who lost in the primary election to get on the ballot as an Independent for the general election.
Residents may sign more than one petition as long as they are not for candidates running for the same party’s nomination. The primary for all state offices, including governor, state senators and representatives, will be held on Tuesday, August 24. This is a change from past years when it was held in September. The general election is on November 2.
