Vote to Amend Town Regulations Fails
On January 21 Charlotte voters were asked to approve an amendment to the town’s Land Use Regulations that would allow retail property to be constructed at the corner of Route 7 and Church Hill Road (currently owned by Bid Spear). The vote failed by a count of 359 “For” to 497 “Against.” A total of 856 people voted. Before balloting closed, Town Clerk Mary Mead said that a number of people had picked up paper ballots but never returned them completed. Despite the results of the vote, the Planning Commission recommends reducing the setback on the property to 30 feet and will look for approval of that recommendation on the ballot at Town Meeting.
