The U.S. Census Bureau is hiring full and part-time workers at pay rates from $10 to $16 per hour. Jobs include clerks, recruiting assistants and enumerators (census takers). Hours are flexible, and training is provided. Testing for these jobs is taking place on a regular basis in Burlington and Middlebury, and there will be an opportunity in Charlotte this Sunday, January 31, at 1 p.m. in the Town Hall.
Information and practice tests are available at the Town Hall, Old Brick Store, Little Garden Market, Senior Center and Spear’s Corner Store, as well as online at 2010censusjobs.gov.
Walk-ins are welcome at the test site on Sunday, and applicants need to bring two forms of ID, including one with a photo. For more information call (802) 264-0860. The Census Bureau is an equal opportunity employer.
The 2010 census will begin when questionnaires are mailed to every home in mid-March. There is just one version with 10 questions which recipients are requested to mail back. The bureau projects that 35% of the recipients will not respond and will require follow-up by the enumerators who will go door-to-door to collect the information.
