Survey Underway at East Burying Ground
Survey Underway at East Burying Ground
by Nancy Wood,
August 26, 2010, page 5.....

The Cemetery Commission has arranged for the Anthropology Department at UVM to survey the East Burying Ground to locate unmarked graves and buried headstones. They plan to do the work every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. through October. Cameron Wesson, chair of the Anthropology Department, and Richard Hart, anthropology student, were doing the land surveying on August 14. The cemetery is located on the west side of Spear Street, about one half mile north of Baptist Corners. Funded with money raised by commissioner Stephen Brooks, the access has been upgraded with new gravel and a parking area has been cleared with the permission of land owner John Carpenter. A few headstones remain intact and readable, while others are broken and scattered about the cemetery.
