2010 Tim Serrell Clinic

Tim Serrell was a summer resident of Charlotte who loved to play tennis. When he died, he left money in a trust fund to provide free tennis lessons to the children of Charlotte. The program began in 1989, and has become a Charlotte summer tradition.
The Tim Serrell Tennis Clinic will be held June 21-25. Each child will participate for 1 hour/day. Younger children will play from 8:30-9:30 a.m., and older children will play from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Each child will be assigned a time when registration for the clinic is complete. The clinic is open to athletes in grades 1-8 and is free; however, we do ask that each participant donate $5 to buy low-pressure tennis balls.
The Tim Serrell Fund is managed by the Town of Charlotte. Tax deductible donations to “Tim Serrell Tennis” are vital to the continuation of this program. Generous donations from past participants have enabled us to expand the program to two hours of lessons. If you can give, please do, so that we can continue this wonderful program. Donations may be sent to the Recreation drop box at Charlotte Town Hall or given to Amy deGroot during the clinic.
Registration is required for this free program. Space is limited so early registration is encouraged. Use the Charlotte Recreation Registration Forms to sign up for this awesome clinic. Forms are available at Charlotte Town Hall and on the town website at charlottevt.org. Please call the recreation office at 425-6129 with any questions.
*Junior rackets are recommended for athletes in grades 1-4. Sneakers are required and everyone must bring a water bottle. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen!

Seventh Annual Charlotte Basketball Camp Starts June 28

The 2010 Charlotte Basketball Camp will be held June 28 – July 2. The Director is Ute Otley, assistant coach at Champlain Valley Union H.S., and former Dartmouth College point guard.
The camp will run in two sessions: Girls and Boys entering 4th, 5th and 6th grade, 9 a.m.-noon. Girls and Boys entering 7th, 8th and 9th grade, 1-4 p.m. All campers must wear proper clothing: T-shirt, shorts, socks and gym shoes. Water bottles are recommended.
The objective of the Charlotte Basketball Camp is to teach and develop the fundamentals of basketball. It is our goal to improve each camper’s individual skills while developing team concepts. Every camper will be put in competitive situations in which he or she will have the chance to excel. We want your child to love the game of basketball when he or she leaves our camp.
