State Police Arrest Three in Local Burglaries
by Gail Callahan
Vermont State Police have arrested three people in a string of burglaries on Greenbush Road earlier this month.
According to the Vermont State Police, Sean Leach, 23, of Burlington and Gillian Junger, 20, of Shelburne were arrested August 11 in connection with the burglaries. Kyle Evans, 19, of Burlington was taken into custody August 7. Evans became a suspect in the burglaries after the Shelburne Police Department linked him to the burglaries in Charlotte after lifting a fingerprint from a beer can. Leach and Evans could not be reached for comment, and phone calls to Junger’s home seeking comment were not returned. Evans is in custody at the Chittenden County Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington, according to Vermont State Trooper Garry Scott, the investigating officer in the case.
Scott also said the three are linked to a series of burglaries in the White River Junction area.
According to the State Police, Leach appeared voluntarily at their Williston barracks to answer questions. At press time contact with Junger has been through her attorney. At the time Leach was charged with burglary and released. Junger is charged with petty larceny and as an accessory. The pair are slated to appear in Chittenden Superior Court Sept. 25. Scott was not certain when Evans would appear in court.
Fourteen homes were broken into on August 5, starting at 2 a.m. Items allegedly stolen included purses, wallets and cash. Cars were also entered at three locations, where cash and change were taken.
John Reynolds, who lives on Greenbush Road, had his home and vehicles broken into during the burglaries. He said a neighbor told him that his wallet was found in the street the morning of August 4, but the houses had no signs of forced entry. He declined to say if the home was locked the night of the incident.
Vermont State Police Lt. Dee Glynn said the best advice she could give residents was to keep their homes and car doors locked at all times. “Lock car doors when the cars are parked in the driveways and lock your homes at night and when you are away.”
