Chittenden South wrestlers show their strength around the state.
CSSU junior high school wrestlers have been busy in the last month competing in tournaments around the state. Beginning at Otter Valley High School in mid December, they moved on to Hinesburg Community School and Middlebury Middle School this month. Charlotte has been well represented by four members of the team. Brandon Tieso and Shawn Lussier won second place medals at Middlebury. Caleb Wright earned silver medals at both Otter Valley and Hinesburg, and Zach Gregory took home a bronze medal at Otter Valley and won his weight class at the All-Star meet in Hinesburg.

Chittenden South Youth Wrestling will sign up anyone interested in learning the sport (kindergarten through sixth grade) on January 27 and February 2 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Hinesburg Community School Cafeteria. CSSU competes in five tournaments during the season. Coaches will help wrestlers build strength, coordination and balance and learn teamwork. Those with questions may call Coach Wayne Ring at 482-3747.
Rich Lowrey is nominated for an ACT award.
The American Canadian Tour and Thunder Road International Speedway Associations have nominated Charlotte racecar driver Rich Lowrey for the Late Model Sportsmanship Award.
Middlebury’s Marston is on the ski tour.
Skiing for Middlebury College’s Nordic team, Chase Marston placed among the top 15 finishers in two winter carnivals recently. Opening at St. Lawrence University in mid-January, he was the second Middlebury racer to cross the line. The following week at Colby College in Sugarloaf, Maine, he finished 11th to help his team place third overall.
Beldock and Kaleo commit to Division I college lacrosse.
Charlotters Geordie Beldock and Makoa Kaleo have been recruited to play lacrosse in two Division I university programs. Beldock, an All Western New England first team selection at the Berkshire School in the highly competitive Founders League will attend Marist College. Kaleo, a defenseman for Founders League Champion, Avon Old Farms School, will return to Vermont to join the UVM Catamounts. Both played lacrosse in Charlotte and on the Crusader travel teams.
CVU grad is Liberty League player of the week.
John Donnelly, Vassar College basketball player from Williston, was named Liberty League player of the week after averaging 17 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games.
