CVU lands players on numerous all-star teams.
Leading off with members of the Division I runner-up field hockey team, Champlain Valley Union has a number of players named to all-star squads this fall. Recently, seniors KK Logan, Kelsey Jensen and Kathryn Powell made the Burlington Free Press first all-state team. Emmaleigh Loyer was named to the second team, and Audrey Deavitt received honorable mention.
Logan, Jensen and Powell were also named to the Twin State team that will face New Hampshire, and they plus Loyer were first-team Metro Division all stars. Kelsey was cited as Divisional Player of the Year and CVU coach Kate McDonald as Coach of the Year. A junior forward, Louise Gibbs, and goalie Elizabeth Goddette made second-team Metro with Maggie Ryan and Audrey Deavitt receiving honorable mention.
Moving on to the state soccer rosters, the champion Redhawk men placed three on the Free Press all-state team: Chris Beaton in the backfield, Kyle Logan at midfield and Mike Clayton up front. Tino Tomasi and Charlotte’s Andrew Blake were named to the second team. The coaches decided that all five deserved Division I all-state recognition. The Metro Division first team added Nick Hart to the mix on its first-team roster, while John Milbank, Elias Wiszereck and Dylan Crow gained honorable mention. Coach T.J. Mead was named Metro Coach of the Year.
Senior back Haleigh Smith was the only Redhawk from the women’s Division I runner-up soccer squad to land on the Free Press first team. Teammate Lindsay Hawley made the second team, and Charlotte seniors Kylie deGroot and Lindsay Kingston both received honorable mention. The coaches picked the Charlotters to represent CVU on the Division I all-state squad along with Smith, Hawley and Addie Peterson. The Metro Division all-stars included the oft-cited five Redhawks plus Emily Sackett and Erica Gobeille.
With football and cross-country yet to name its stars, the Vermont statewide fall sport rosters could be awash with Redhawks.
