Sheila Burleigh is honored by her peers.
Charlotte resident and South Burlington High School’s women’s basketball coach Sheila Burleigh was voted the top high school girls’ basketball coach in the New England district this season. She led her team to a record of 15 wins and 7 losses and was one of nine regional winners selected by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Others came from as far away as Colorado, Texas, Indiana and Georgia. Sheila has compiled 519 wins and 264 losses over a 36-year career in coaching.
Redhawks earn places on several all-star hockey teams.
CVU juniors Molly Howard and Alyx Rivard were named by the Burlington Free Press to its second team all-state hockey squad. Howard is a forward; Rivard plays defense. Molly scored 29 goals with 18 assists this season. Rivard switched from forward to the back line and still managed to contribute 3 goals and 5 assists. The two were also named to the Metro Division second team. Teammate Sophia Steinhoff made the third Metro squad and gained honorable mention from the Free Press. KK Logan received honorable mention from Metro coaches. Four Redhawks – Sasha Gunther, Emma Loyer, Addie Peterson and Maggie Ryan – achieved all-academic status. Coach Tom Ryan was named Metro Coach-of-the-Year.
On the men’s side, high-scoring junior forward Robbie Dobrowski was named to the Burlington Free Press first-team all-state. His 31 goals and 22 assists brought him over the 100-point career total mark. Three other Redhawks received Free Press mention. Dobrowski’s linemate Kyle Logan was named to the third all-state team, while goalie Mark Albertson and defenseman Cully Millikin received honorable mention. Metro coaches also picked Dobrowski for the division’s first team. Logan and Albertson were named to the third team, and Millikin received honorable mention.

Allison Gannon, a CVU senior forward on the women’s basketball team, was named to the second all-state team by the Burlington Free Press. Gannon averaged 14.7 points per game coupled with 8.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists, which earned her Gatorade’s Vermont Player of the Year Award. She was joined on the Metro Division all-star roster by teammates Kendal Kolasch who made the second squad and Shae Hulbert who earned honorable mention. CVU grad and women’s head coach Stan Williams received Metro Coach-of-the-Year honors.
CVU men’s junior Jake Donnelly was named to the Free Press second team all-state squad and to the first team all-Metro Division.
Redhawk basketball players join “Slam for Sudan.”
Jake Donnelly, Chris Beaton and Allison Gannon competed in skills contests March 25 to raise money for “Global Reach Partnership,” a non-profit organization that supports Sudanese refugees living in Vermont. The competition was held at Burlington’s Memorial Auditorium. Gannon won the three-point shoot out, hitting 22 baskets in her final round. Donnelly came in second in the point-guard skill challenge.
