Solar update: Conservation Commission Supports Site of Solar Project
November 17, 2011.....
At the Tuesday November 15 meeting, the Conservation Commission voted unanimously (with one abstention) that the proposed solar installation at Thompson's Point is suitable for the site.
Several Thompson's Point summer residents questioned the appropriateness of the solar trackers in a Conservation District, and asked the commission if they had considered other sites. Commission Chair Bob Hyams pointed out that they had been asked to evaluate only this site based on the conservation values. Most of the commission members said they did not believe that the solar trackers would have an adverse impact on wildlife or other conservation values at the particular site.
The site is in the field at the southwest corner of Flat Rock Road and Thompson's Point Road where the sewer treatment facility is also located.
The Planning Commission site walk is Thursday, November 17, at 4 p.m., and discussion and formulation of a recommendation will be at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall.
Both Commissions will bring their recommendations to the Selectboard at the November 21 meeting at 6 p.m. That is also the final public hearing on the project.
