Silence for 25 Hours Raises Awareness of Invisible Children

On April 25, I will join Invisible Children and create a silence that will be heard around the world. For the last 25 years, thousands of people in central Africa have been silenced by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) led by a serial murderer named Joseph Kony. For 25 hours, thousands of participants around the world, including myself, will go silent so that the victims of the LRA are heard. Money raised from this event, called “25,” will fund The Invisible Children Protection Plan and bring life-saving communication and rehabilitation projects to the child victims of the LRA.
The most devastating tragedy about the LRA is it abducts innocent children and forces them into rebel armies. No child should know how to use an AK-47, no mother should lose her only son because he was abducted out of his bed during the night, and no one should have to suffer for 25 years of terror because of a lack of protection, communication and funds to rescue and protect the children and build safer villages.
I have been working with Invisible Children (IC) for nearly six years, and every year I grow more proud of the organization I belong to. The nonprofit works to transform apathy into activism. By documenting the lives of those living in regions of conflict and injustice, it hopes to educate and inspire individuals in the Western world to use their unique voice for change. IC media creates an opportunity for people to become part of a grassroots movement that intelligently responds to what’s happening in the world.
I am seeking help from my fellow Charlotters as I raise money and awareness for the thousands of children in central Africa who have been abducted by Joseph Kony and his rebel army.
My goal is to raise $500 for the “25” national awareness event on April 25, when thousands around the world will be silent, using our voices (by not using them) to speak out against this 25-year-long war.
Please consider donating to this most worthy cause that I feel so passionate about. Donations can be made at: 25.invisiblechildren.com/member/ic-fundraising?fcid=44276. If you send me an e-mail at sadie.stone@live.com, I can send you a direct link to my fundraising page.
Thank you for your support. Together we will put an end to the longest running conflict in Africa.
