A reminder to all Appalachian Trail Walkers: don’t forget to call your team captains on Monday mornings with your miles! The flags are slowly moving into New Hampshire at this writing, with Team Susquehanna leading the pack.
The first summer meeting of the Charlotte Historical Society will held at the Center on Tuesday July 1 at 7 p.m. Dan Cole will be speaking about local Civil War stories. All are welcome to attend. Light refreshments served.
Registration for the September Celebration of Art show is underway. You can pick up a form on the front foyer table or stop in on Friday mornings to chat with the artists of Lighthearted Arts about the possibilities. Sabina Evarts will offer special workshops in Dimensional Art on Friday, July 11 and 18, during Lighthearted Arts from 10 a.m. to noon to introduce folks to the wonderful world of sculpture through paper mache, an old French technique with remarkable possibilities. Entitled Papier Mache Project: ”Waste Management,” Sabina and other artists in the group will be creating sculptures for the Fall Art Show and will share their tricks of the trade. Come and watch, learn and get inspired.
It’s BBQ season! Join Adele for the BBQ Cooking Series as she goes through the steps of transforming an everyday BBQ into a “talk of the town feast! Thursday afternoons from 1 to 3 p.m. on the following days: July 24: Sauces and Rubs, July 31: Summer Salads as stand alone meals or side dishes, August 7: Fresh Berry Pie. Please call the center for a full description of each class. Registration required, maximum 20 participants. Fee: $60 includes all materials.
The center is pleased to host the American Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, June 26, from 2 to 7 p.m. The comfortable atmosphere, great snacks and a free magnetic massage by Phyllis Austin of Vermont Wellness make giving the “Gift of Life” at this site most pleasurable.
The new Italian Cooking Series with Adele Dienno begins Thursday afternoons from 1 to 3 p.m. Registration required, maximum 20 participants. Fee: $60 includes all materials. Adele has been teaching the joys of Italian cooking for years and has just returned from a trip to Italy, eager to share her passion for its food. Please call the center for a full description of each class. July 3: Bruschetta and Tapanade Spreads, July 10: Pasta, July 17: Gelato, Sorbet, Italian Ice.
Bridge. All are welcome to join others every Thursday evening at 7 p.m. as our non-competitive bridge game resumes for the summer. No fee.
Our glorious Senior Luncheons are held every Wednesday at noon. Reservations are necessary in advance and can be made by calling the Senior Center at 425-6345. A $4 donation is requested to help cover costs. Those who do not wish to share lunch with us are welcome to drop in around 1 p.m. to enjoy the after lunch offerings:
7/16: Ice Cream Social
Come and enjoy ice cream at Robert and Barbara McDonald’s small horse farm in Charlotte. Watch Zacharia, their one-year-old gelding, run around the pastures with his mom, take a dip in the pond (watch out for the turtles and frogs!), play croquet or bocce ball, or take a hike in the woods. Please bring a folding chair and your own suntan lotion. Hope to see you there! Sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board. Rain date is 7/23.
