A
Beading Class with Carol Schreiber from the Human Hand Gallery begins Tuesday mornings from 10 until noon. Dates: 1/22, 1/29, 2/5. You are invited to join Carol for a demonstration of this art form after the luncheon on January 16. Carol will then offer a three-class workshop that will include:
1/22 - Learn the basics of bead stringing. You will create a one-of-a-kind necklace or bracelet using one of Carol’s handmade glass beads. Learn about the right materials, resources for those materials and jewelry designing.
1/29 - Design and create a bracelet and earrings or a multi strand necklace. Advanced stringing techniques will be discussed and introduce different findings, (clasps, stations, cones and metal spacers). 2/5 - Take all your knowledge from the last two weeks and use it to create new and exciting jewelry from your old or broken pieces. If you have one earring or a broken necklace, bring it to class and we will give it new life. Registration required. Course fee: $5 per session which includes all materials.
English Country Dance with Judy Chaves gets into full swing on Wednesday evening from 7-8:30. Dates: 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6. Come learn to English country dance! The forerunner of American contra dancing, its only prerequisites are a knowledge of right from left (though occasional lapses are quickly forgiven!) and a willingness to move to some of the most glorious music around: traditional and early English tunes. We’ll cover basics as well as more advanced figures, switch partners often (so it doesn’t matter if you sign up as a single or a couple), have you speaking the lingo in no time (“Mirror hey!” “Siding!” “Half figure-of-eight!”), perhaps learn a bit of dance history, and have a lot of fun in the process. Registration necessary. Fee: $30.
Our glorious Senior Luncheons are held every Wednesday at noon. Reservations are necessary in advance and can be made by calling the Senior Center at 425-6345. A $4 donation is requested to help cover costs. Those who do not wish to share lunch with us are welcome to drop in around 1p.m. to enjoy the after lunch offerings.
