Senior Center Happenings

In order to further enjoy the lake theme of our annual walk this year we will be having organized Walking Buddies every Wednesday morning in July. The sites are planned so that you can do a short, medium or long walk; the short walks will be fairly flat. If you are looking for a companion to walk with while adding miles to your team total, come meet at the center at 9:15 a.m., and we will go from there.
The Gentleman’s Eatery with Mahlon Haines will be cooking breakfast on Thursday, July 29, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Whether you’re single, want to upgrade your skills or maybe never thought you’d need to learn to cook, here’s a chance to experience the joys and practicalities of cooking while having fun at the same time. Registration required. Suggested donation: $5 to cover the cost of food.
The Charlotte Historical Society Presents a Civil War Presentation with Dan Cole on Tuesday, August 4, at 7 p.m. Continuing research on Civil War history, some illustrated by the experience of Charlotte soldiers and their families, has been Dan’s lifelong avocation and has also provided rewarding evenings for residents. Last summer’s “Demons Sometimes Live in Fog” characterized the period as “A Time when War was the Paramount Interest.”
Genealogy with Carl Tatlock will meet on Thursday, August 6, at 1 p.m. Do you want to research your ancestors but are not sure how to get started? Or have you hit a wall in your research and need some ideas on what to try next? Come meet with others who have worked on their family trees to share ideas, information and the stories of your journey through history. Family Tree Maker and Ancestory.com are available at the Center to assist you in your search. No Fee.
All are welcome to join in the fun as we celebrate summer at the Annual Senior Center BBQ on Friday, August 7, beginning at 5 p.m. Our theme this year will have a French flair and highlight the sights and sounds of Lake Champlain with our own Marty Morrissey and Robert Resnik bringing their accordions, whistles, guitars and songs about our beautiful lake for after dinner enjoyment. Fun for the whole family! Registration requested. Fee: $10
Our fourth annual art show, “Yes We Can! (Do Art),” will be the September Art Exhibit at the center and we would like you to take part in the celebration. This is a non-juried show open to area artists of all “mastery” levels ages 50+. Our hope is that many types of art media will be represented. We again want to encourage three-dimensional art of all types this year. Registration forms with specific details are available at the Senior Center. Any questions? Call Sabina at 985-4099 or bring your ideas to discuss during a regular meeting of the Friday morning Lighthearted Arts Group. Entry deadline is August 14.
Senior Luncheons are held every Wednesday at noon. Reservations are necessary in advance and can be made by calling the Senior Center at 425-6345. A $4 donation is requested to help cover costs.
With the arrival of summer, the Monday Munch will be offering lighter, cooler menus through the end of July. Always healthy, delicious and homemade, each menu will offer a fresh salad and a choice of soup or special creation, bread, beverage and those fabulous homemade deserts. A $4 donation is suggested and reservations are not required. August will be a time for the crew to take a break and dream up new and exciting menus for their return on September 14.
