A new session of Chair Yoga with Tiny Sikkes will begin Mondays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Session I dates: 3/30, 4/6, 4/13, 4/20. Using chairs for balance and for all seated postures, this class makes yoga accessible to those who are challenged by balance, the ability to come to the floor or any physical limitations. We’ll cover the full range of yoga postures and benefits while sitting comfortably in chairs, improving breath capacity, strength and flexibility. A great class if you are concerned about adapting in a standard class. Registration necessary. Fee: $40 per session.
The Gentleman’s Eatery with Mahlon Haines continues on Thursday, March 26, from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Come join a growing group of guys who get together to experience the joys and practicalities of cooking while having fun at the same time! Registration required. Suggested donation: $5 to cover the cost of food.
The Flynn Center for the Performing Arts Matinee Series is offering As You Like It on Monday, April 13, at 10:30 a.m. This is one of Shakespeare’s greatest comedies. The witty story of Rosalind’s journey of self-discovery has been an audience favorite for more than 400 years. The National Players take a fresh approach to this timeless classic, making it all the more relevant for today. This is a wonderful opportunity to see a show at the Flynn during the day at a fraction of the regular cost. Registration is through the Senior Center and required one week prior to the show. Fee: $8.50
Save the following dates for Road Hikes with Marty Morrissey! Details of each hike are available at the host desk. Registration is required, and there is no fee. The first hike will be on Tuesday, April 28, to Jonesville. The next will be Tuesday, May 5, to Little River State Park, and finally, Tuesday, May 12, to Underhill State Park.
Our glorious Senior Luncheons are held every Wednesday at noon. Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling the Senior Center at 425-6345. A $4 donation is requested to help cover costs.
Those who do not wish to share lunch with us are welcome to drop in around 1 p.m. to enjoy the After Lunch Offerings:
3/25: The 70/40 Rule: with Karen Kesling
Do the issues of aging often leave you and your family speechless? The “40-70 Rule” is based on original research conducted by Home Instead Senior Care, which discovered that the communication gap that occurred when Boomer children were teenagers may repeat as seniors struggle to find the right words to talk to their kids about sensitive subjects. Independence, money, health and romance can leave senior parents tongue-tied, even if they are close to their children. Karen will present conversation starters, communication tips and send you home with your own 70/40 booklet.
4/8: Jazz it Up with The CVU Singers
“It Might As Well Be Spring” in the Great Room. Travel back in time with Carl Recchia and his glorious CVU Singers as they bring to life those wonderful songs from our past. Sing along, tap your foot or get up and dance!
4/15: The Birth of Our Senior Center with Shirley Bean
As we begin our eighth year of operation, it is hard for many of us to imagine Charlotte without the Senior Center. Join Shirley Bean as she brings us back to our humble beginnings as the star of an original Don and BettyAnne Lockhart DVD.
