Save the date! Our Annual Plant Sale will be held on Saturday, May 17. You will find buds, blossoms and bargains. If your spring clean-up produces extra seedlings, divisions or prunings, we will be accepting donations on Friday, May 16. Please call Lorna Bates (325-3819) or Wendy Pierce (985-8547) with any questions or if you have large quantities to contribute. Hope to see you there.
We welcome Curtis Ladeau to the May Art Exhibit. He has been an amateur photographer for many years. His selected photos were taken over a number of years in a variety of settings. Some show urban textures from the subways of Flushing, New York. Others show uncommon views of Vermont from its mountains to its waterfronts. He has never before shown his photos in public and is interested in receiving feedback on his work.
The final two spring hikes with Marty Morrissey in the Champlain Valley are detailed below. Registration required. No fee.
Hike #1: Tuesday, May 6. To Red Rocks Park. Hike starts at the parking lot off Queen City Park Road in South Burlington. We will follow roads in loop through the park to the lake at far end. This area has lots of spring wildflowers. Total distance is two and a half to three and a half miles. Bring water and good walking shoes. Depart from the Senior Center at 9 a.m.
Hike #2: Tuesday, May 13. To Lincoln. This hike is on State Road #202, a gravel-logging road near Lincoln Gap. We proceed south from the Lincoln Gap road; distance will depend on road conditions. There is the potential of looping all the way to South Lincoln. Distance is two to four miles and travel time is 50 minutes each way. Bring water, snack and hiking boots. Depart from the Senior Center at 8:30 a.m.
You are cordially invited to a “Woman’s Financial Anti-anxiety Tea” with Janet Binkerd, Michelle Lawrence and Meredith Augustoni. This tea will take you through a story involving a woman named “Kay” and the financial decisions she makes. If you are a woman over 50 and concerned about your financial future but afraid you might make the wrong move, this tea is for you. Two separate times will be offered to keep the setting personal: after the luncheon on Wednesday, May 7, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. or from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for those of you still working. Registration required. No fee.
Our glorious Senior Luncheons are held every Wednesday at noon. Reservations are necessary in advance and can be made by calling the Senior Center at 425-6345. A $4 donation is requested to help cover costs. Those who do not wish to share lunch with us are welcome to drop in around 1 p.m. to enjoy the after lunch offerings:
