Selectboard Turns Down Solar Trackers Plan
by Robbie Stanley, November 26, 2011.....In a 4-1 vote on November 25, the Charlotte Selectboard stopped the proposed solar energy project on Thompson’s Point Road. At least one Selectboard member cited the Planning Commission’s recent 50-50 split in its decision in influencing his opinion not to support the proposal. Selectboard Chair Charles Russell was the sole yes vote reflecting those in town who support the plan.
The Planning Commission sent two members to the November 21 Selectboard meeting to outline both conclusions. Three members did not feel that the solar trackers were an appropriate use of conserved land; three members disagreed.
Despite being held the day after Thanksgiving, Friday’s meeting still brought out two dozen townspeople. The proposal had been controversial, particularly amongst residents, many seasonal, of Thompson’s Point Road.
