School Board Sets April 6 for Budget Revote and Approves New Principal
School Board Sets April 6 for Budget Revote and Approves New Principal
March 10,2010

The School Board held a special meeting Tuesday night, March 9, to discuss the defeated budget, and to hear comments from the public. About 30 people attended, including parents, teachers and other interested citizens.

The Board asked Principal Sandra Jump to develop recommendations with staff and teachers for cuts of up to $50,000, and to report back to the Board at the regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, March 16. That meeting will start at 6 p.m. in the library at CCS.

The Board set April 6 as the date for a re-vote on the budget.

The last item on the agenda was to consider the recommendation of the Superintendent for the 5th to 8th grade Co-principal. The Board voted 4-1 in favor of offering the position to Audrey Boutaugh. Boutaugh most recently served as principal of the Moser, Stevens elementary schools in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, from 2006 - 2009. Superintendent Elaine Pinckney announced the hiring in the following letter sent to the CCS community today:

"Dear Charlotte Community –

It is with enthusiasm that I announce the hiring of Audrey Boutaugh for the CCS 5-8 principal position. Audrey holds degrees in Finance, Business Administration, and holds both a Masters Degree and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Education from the University of Connecticut and the University of New Haven. She has served as Principal, Vice-Principal, teacher, math resource teacher, and writing coach in Connecticut. The search committee was impressed with the breadth of her experience and the enthusiasm she brings to her work. She is very knowledgeable of the many programs that are important to us - Differentiated Instruction, Response to Instruction, Using Data for Results and Positive Behavior Supports. Audrey spent the entire day at CCS last week and met with teachers, staff, administration, and board members. All were favorably impressed and looking forward to having her lead our school community. Audrey's official start date is July 1.

Sincerely,
Elaine Pinckney"
