SCHIP Awards $25,100 in New Grants
November 17, 2011, page 19.....

Board members of the nonprofit Shelburne Charlotte Hinesburg Interfaith Projects (SCHIP) considered grant requests from organizations for the third of three grant cycles of 2011 and awarded grants totaling $25,100. This brings the total grants from funds raised through the sale of used clothing and home goods at SCHIP’s Treasure Resale Shop on Shelburne Road in Shelburne Village more than $325,000 since 2005.

Grants in the current round ranged from $1,000 to $5,000:

Charlotte and Shelburne Food Shelves and the Hinesburg Community Resource Center each received a $5,000 grant to help those in need of food and fuel in the coming winter months.
Hunger Free Vermont’s grant was in the amount of $1,000 to help enroll people in Charlotte, Shelburne and Hinesburg in the 3 Squares program.
The Trinity Episcopal Church received a $1,500 grant for the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund to support those in their parish who may need assistance.
The Hinesburg Food Shelf was granted $3,600 to help buy food. The food shelf will be moving to a new location, and an increase in need is anticipated.
Ascension Day Care received a grant in the amount of $3,000 to help with tuition for children from Shelburne and Hinesburg.
Connecting Youth received its grant of $1,000 to help with See Why theater improv group performances.

The deadline for the next round of grant applications is Tuesday, January 31, 2011. Grant application forms are available by e-mailing schipgrant@myfairpoint.net, or paper applications are available at the SCHIP’s Treasure Resale Shop, 5404 Shelburne Road in Shelburne Village or at the Town Clerk’s offices in Charlotte, Shelburne and Hinesburg.

Patricia Coleman and Abby Miller, co-conveners of the SCHIP Board of Directors, hosted a luncheon at the Methodist Church in Shelburne on November 10 to celebrate the contributions of the volunteers who make SCHIP grants possible.
