Summer is here and the beach is hopping, especially now that the docks are in. The tennis courts still look like they were just refinished, so come on down and use them.
I would like to thank the Girl Scouts for the gorgeous curtains they made for the women’s bathroom changing area. What a super contribution to the town!
We have a couple ofnew grills up and plenty of room to run around. Welcome back to beach attendants Jackie, Jake and Kathryn, and our newest staff member Zoe.
We had a great group for the Tim Serrell Tennis Clinic this year, which only had one rained-out day. We seem to have many kids in our town in training for the next CVU championship team. Thank you to Amy, Tabor and Kylie deGroot for their wonderful dedication to and instruction of tennis in Charlotte. They’ll be back in July for their first Summer Tennis Camp.
The track at CVU is a busy place to be on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Over 70 kids are training in Track and Field events to compete in four different meets this summer.
Hoop’s Basketball camp is approaching on July 6 - 10. Ute Otley is back with a number of her former players. The CCS gyms are the place to be, with plenty of drills and games to improve your child’s game. There is still space available, so sign up at Town Hall or print the form from the website.
We still have space available in our tiny tennis and the popular Flip and Cheer camp; don’t forget to sign up for swimming lessons with the American Red Cross. Lessons will be held at the Charlotte Town Beach July 27 through August 7 in the mornings from 9 to 9:45. Register with the American Red Cross at nvtredcross.org
Going to the Great Escape? Get discounted tickets for $25 at Town Hall for any day of the season.
Fall Soccer: The early registration deadline is June 30. Early registration is $27; regular registration is $40 (July 1 thru August 21). Soccer is open to Charlotte youths entering kindergarten through sixth grade. Kindergarteners practice and play Saturday mornings. First grade teams practice one night a week and play games on Saturday mornings; Second through sixth grades practice twice a week and play Saturday mornings, 5/6 teams play other towns – some travel is required. Sixth graders may join the team after-school tryouts at the beginning of school. Mark your calendars for the Soccer Jamboree on Saturday, September 26.
A last quick note: we are excited to offer a Nordic skiing program next winter. We are looking for people interested in helping us start this program in Charlotte. If you or someone you know may be interested, please contact Deb at the Recreation Office.
