Bike Safety Clinics Before the Parade and in August
Local Motion is coming to do an hour-long bike safety clinic with bike decorating before the parade on Town Party day, July 9. The clinic is free, but your child needs to be registered to participate. Local Motion will also be promoting a bike skills camp that will be held August 8-11 at Charlotte Central School. Registration has been light so please do not wait to sign up or the camp may be canceled due to low enrollment.
Summer Camps Underway
We have had four successful camps so far this summer, and there are still openings in the other four we have left for the summer. Summer Tennis Camp for 10 to 14-year-olds will be held in the mornings July 11-15. Challenger Soccer Camp will follow the following week; sign up before July 8 to avoid a late fee. The bike camp will be followed by the popular Flip and Cheer Camp August 15-19.
On July 15 Charlotte will be hosting the Champlain Valley Recreation Association (CVRA) Friday night tennis series for ages 15 and up. It starts at 6:30 p.m. and costs $10 to play until 8:30 p.m. There are other nights hosted by Colchester, Milton, South Burlington, Shelburne and Essex. Check out the website at charlottevt.org tab Recreation, or call the recreation office at 425-6129 for more information.
Great Escape
There are discounted Great Escape Tickets available at town hall again this year for $27. Please bring cash or a check to the Town Clerk’s office to purchase these.
Beach News
The waters are receding at the beach and we are almost clear of the last step to the water. We are having the water tested regularly and last week the beach was closed to swimming due to a bad water test. Whenever the beach gets that information, the town heath officer, Tom Mansfield, will post it at the beach and also on the website. The water is retested regularly and results are reported on the website as well as posted at the beach if swimming is prohibited. If you have any questions, call the recreation office at 425-6129 or ask the beach attendant on duty.

11-12 Baseball All Stars Shine
Saturday: Charlotte 9 Richmond 3
The Charlotte 11-12 year old All Stars came from behind Saturday with a big nine run 3rd inning to win their first game in the Vermont District 1 tournament. This is a 12-team pool play contest in which the top six teams advance to the 2nd round with double elimination play. Charlotte’s starting pitcher, Drew Colgan, pitched three solid innings giving up one earned run with three strikeouts, and Kyle Hinsdale came on in relief for the last three innings with three strikeouts and one earned run as well. Team leaders with their bats were Drew Colgan, George Davis and Colin Monsey who combined for six singles, four runs scored, and four runs batted in. Kyle Hinsdale showed off his power batting in the number three spot with a towering three run homer deep over the left field fence. The defense shut down Richmond in the last two innings with several strong plays from Finn Simpkins at third base and George Davis in center field.
Sunday: Charlotte 6 Colchester 1
Charlotte had another impressive performance on Sunday starting with veteran pitcher Hayden Kjelleren going four strong innings and giving up only one earned run. Colin Monsey came on in relief to pitch the final two innings of impressive shutout ball. Great plays came from all over the field with outstanding catches in the outfield by Trevor McGlaflin, Brad Reynolds and Ivan Seyller. Finn Simpkins again made another strong play with a hot shot to third base and the long throw to first, and John Delisle finished a bang-bang play at third in throwing out a lead runner at 2nd base. Catcher Jordan Ayer picked off a runner at first base to end the game with a rundown for Kjelleren and Kyle Hinsdale who tagged out the runner sliding into second. The team was also strong on offense starting with Drew Colgan leading off the game by crushing a double to the center field fence followed by a walk for George Davis and a triple by Kjelleren to score the first two runs for Charlotte. Kjelleren overall went 3 for 3 with two triples, a single, four RBI’s and two runs scored.
