Point Bay Marina Pleases Boaters with a New Service Dock,
Walkways and More to Come

"There are lots of great improvements here,” said David Gray. He and his wife Pauline have kept their sailboat Atheneaum at Point Bay Marina for seven years. David, who lives in Essex, will be the commodore of the Royal Savage Yacht Club next year. He said, “They’ve done practical things like stones in the boat storage area, so we’re not walking on mud in the spring. And they are very interested in and supportive of the yacht club.”

Upgrades have been underway over the last several years since the marina was purchased by a group of investors, including David Coates, John Evans and Bruce Lisman. There is now electric power and new lighting throughout the property, and four-foot-high large stone riprap at the waterfront. Boaters are greeted at a new service dock this year, with a new pump-out facility that is free for boats kept at the marina and $8 for visitors. According to business manager Todd Smith, 22,000 gallons of waste were pumped and disposed of at the marina’s expense last year.

Next steps include plans for a restaurant on the waterfront. The Planning Commission agenda for tonight (July 1) includes a site visit at 5:30 pm., and “Sketch Plan Review for Site Plan Approval for a proposed 88 seat restaurant” at 7:05 p.m.

Point Bay has dockage for 210-220 boats and 100 moorings. All spaces are rented and there is a waiting list. Linda Brownell of Williston, who has kept a boat there for 11 years, said, “We couldn’t imagine going anywhere else.”
