Planning Commission receives draft of report on East Charlotte meetings.
By Edd Merritt
David Raphael, a consultant who facilitated three meetings of interested residents talking about elements they would like to see in Charlotte’s East Village plan, submitted a draft of his final report to the Planning Commission. Following a review and some editing by Town Planner Dean Bloch, the report went to the commission for discussion at its December 3 meeting.
Much of the meeting time was spent on the question of where to take the report next. Audience member Stephen Brooks opted strongly for sending it back to the residents before moving it elsewhere within town government. Commission Chair Jeff McDonald agreed with him, and member Paul Landler urged that whatever was circulated be what Raphael considers as “his product.” McDonald will ask the consultant what he wishes to send to the public. Carrie Spear, another audience member, asked to have Baptist Corners identified in the document, saying that the title of the area was historically significant.
Once the chair checks with Raphael, the commission will schedule another meeting at which the consultant will present his report to the public for review and feedback. McDonald urged interested residents to look for announcements in town papers of where and when they may pick up copies of the report.
