Over $140,000 Raised to Date for the Kelly Brush Ride
Over $140,000 Raised to Date for the Kelly Brush Ride
August 25, 2011, page 2.....

It’s not too late to sign up for the ride! The sixth Annual Kelly Brush Century Ride is on Saturday, September 10, and includes 100-mile, 50-mile and 28-mile routes through scenic Addison and Chittenden Counties beginning in Middlebury and coming north through Charlotte and Shelburne. The route map is displayed on the foundation website, KellyBrushFoundation.org
The website for the event has an up-to-the-minute accounting of the money being raised this year through the $150 entry fee and fundraising by participants and teams, many using online donation pages. The top fundraisers will be recognized on the day of the event.
The Kelly Brush Ride supports spinal cord injury prevention and adaptive sports. The number of participants has increased each year to a high of 675 riders and 23 handcyclists last year and $275,000 raised. It was originally begun by the Middlebury College Ski Team to raise money to buy an adaptive mono ski for fellow member Kelly Brush of Charlotte, after she suffered a major spinal cord injury while competing in a giant slalom race in February 2006.
The foundation uses the funds raised to improve ski racing safety, enhance the quality of life for those with spinal cord injury (SCI) through adaptive sports equipment grants, advance scientific research on SCI, and support the U.S. Adaptive Ski Team. For every $5,000 raised, the foundation will donate adaptive sports equipment in the name of the team or individual that raised it. Funds also support ski safety racing grants for ski clubs and race organizations throughout the U.S.
You can still sign up for the ride and get in some last minute training and fundraising. For more information, to register and to read Kelly’s heartwarming story, go to KellyBrushFoundation.org.
