Osprey Updates
August 9, 2011.....
Today both parents returned to the nest, bringing food to their youngster. Green Mountain Power put a V-shaped barrier over the old pole so that it won't be used again for nesting. At least one of the parents had been using it as a perch overlooking the new nest, which is on a 30 foot pole - 15 feet shorter than the power pole. Now the parent(s) seem to be perching on the edge of the new platform-nest.
Noon, August 8, 2011.....
GMP has installed the new pole with a pseudo nest, and the young osprey has been placed in it with a supply of fish. One of the parents has been circling, and hopefully will land. The raptor rescue folks urge everyone to keep at a distance in order not to disturb the birds further.
Waitsfield/Champlain Valley Telecom will return this afternoon to repair the phone line broken when the hole was dug for the new pole.
Osprey Update
10 AM, August 8, 2011.....
Osprey baby appears to be doing OK, so GMP is installing a new pole for them. Unfortunately, digging for the pole has cut the phone line to much of the area west of the intersection of Lake & Ferry Roads.
