Cami Davis is winner of September drawing.
Cami Davis of West Charlotte is the September winner in a monthly drawing by Transition Charlotte. Her prize is a copy of a new book, Nature Walks in Northern Vermont & the Champlain Valley: More than 40 Scenic Nature Walks throughout the Lake Champlain Region, by Elizabeth Bassett.
“What fun to have won this raffle from Transition Charlotte – one of the most visionary movements on the planet!” Davis said when told she had won the drawing. “Being a lover of walking and a lover of my home place, I am so excited to explore Elizabeth Bassett’s book. Thank you Transition Charlotte!”
“Providing detailed maps and directions and lots of photographs, Bassett describes the best aspects of 42 special places to walk in her beloved state. These walks are for the whole family to enjoy, including the dog in some places,” says the blurb on the book’s back cover, which is available from local and national booksellers.

Transition Charlotte will host training for Transition on November 5 and 6.
There will be two full days of intensive training for emerging leaders of the international Transition Towns initiative at the Charlotte Senior Center, 212 Ferry Road.
Presented by certified Transition trainers Tina Clarke and Ethel Cote of Transition U.S. (TransitionUS.org), the event is being sponsored locally by Transition Charlotte.
The training will help participants
• learn how to describe the triple challenge of Peak Oil, climate instability and economic deterioration, and to move people to action.
• explore ways to create and strengthen their communities.
• connect with others who share their concerns and are on a similar path.
• become part of a rapidly growing, positive, inspirational global movement.
The two-day course was developed by the Transition Network in England (TransitionNetwork.org). It is an in-depth experiential introduction to the Transition Movement. Packed with imaginative and successful ways to engage the community, the course describes how to catalyze, build and facilitate a successful Transition Initiative. It delves into the theory and practice of Transition that has worked well in hundreds of communities around the world.
For preparation, participants are encouraged to read The Transition Handbook: From Oil Dependency to Local Resilience, by Rob Hopkins, and The Transition Primer, which can be found at transitionnetowork.org/resources/transition-primer.
The cost of the training is $140 per person. Lunch, refreshments, and materials are included. Please ask if financial assistance is needed. Housing can be arranged for out-of-towners. Registration closes October 29. For more information, go to transitioncharlottevt.org, or contact Ruah Swennerfelt at ruahswennerfelt@gmail.com or Nancy Severance at skea@aol.com.
