Shirley Reid Appointed Advertising Manager
The Charlotte News is pleased to announce that our new Advertising Manager is Shirley Reid. Shirley is following in the footsteps of Monica Marshall, who will be devoting most of her time to her new business, Wholesome Cravings.
Shirley has extensive experience in the newspaper business including a stint here at The Charlotte News from 1996-1999 and at the St. John Sun Times in the Virgin Islands where she was Publisher/Editor, Designer and Ad Manager.
Shirley is also a sculptor and artist, known locally for her large Gaudi-esque pieces, as well as a radio DJ and book designer. She attended the University of Colorado (communications major), The New School, and the New York Institute of Technology. Her specialty has been sculpture, oil painting, video art and fabric design. She started a newspaper in Lake Placid, New York, worked at the Vermont Cynic and ran an advertising agency, Specialty Media Services.
Shirley and her daughter, Amelia, live at Long Point much of the year. Please welcome her in her new role on the The Charlotte News team.

Update on our Annual Summer Fundraiser
Many thanks to all who have responded to our annual fundraising drive. As you know, The Charlotte News is a nonprofit community newspaper, published by and for Charlotters, and is, as it says in the mission statement on the masthead to the left, “dedicated to informing townspeople of current events and issues; serving as a forum for the free exchange of views of town residents; and celebrating the people, places and happenings that make the Town of Charlotte unique.”
We depend on both donations and advertising sales for support, and appreciate how so many of you contribute and/or choose The Charlotte News for your advertising.
Folks who made donations at the Town Party or who responded to our fundraising mailing within two weeks were included in our Town Party raffle. Congratulations to them, and many thanks to our business friends who contributed to the raffle: Uncle Sam’s Creemee Stand, Spear’s Corner Store, Little Garden Market, Old Brick Store, Point Bay Marina, Pizza on Earth, Vermont Wildflower Farm, Shelburne Country Store, Tenney’s Deli/BritSue’s, La Villa Bistro, Village Wine & Coffee, Steve’s Citgo, Show Me Videos, Red Wagon Plants and Horsford Gardens and Nursery.
We are pleased that contributions to the fund drive continue to come in, and greatly appreciate them no matter what size. In case you’ve lost track of the fundraising mailing sent during July, we’ve included information below.

P.S. The earthquake swayed our building just as we were sending this paper to press on Tuesday. What a surprise!
