With the end of 2011, there are several changes at The Charlotte News. We are pleased to announce that Cheryl Walker has taken on the role of Advertising Manager and Rachel Cummings has joined the Board of Directors. At the same time, our longtime president of the board, James Lawrence, is retiring (see story on this page). James’ years of service played a significant role in the modern development of The News, and he will be greatly missed.
Cheryl Walker
After a 20 year career in sales for various financial institutions, including National Life, Cheryl decided in 2010 to “temporarily retire” and spend more time with her family, Clark Boynton and son Jack, now a 6th grader at CCS. She told us, “I have been helping with proofreading and copy editing at The Charlotte News for about a year. When the advertising manager position became available, I thought it was a good opportunity to get back to work in a sales position that would allow me to stay close to home. I look forward to working with all the great businesses in Charlotte and the surrounding area.”
Rachel Lee Cummings
Rachel Cummings worked her way through college as a caregiver for seniors. Seeing an unmet need in the area for senior home care, she launched Armistead Caregiver Services out of her bedroom in Burlington in 1999. At the time she was a student at UVM majoring in Sociology with a concentration in Gerontology. In 2004, the U.S. Small Business Administration named Cummings Vermont Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Cummings has since sold the business, after expanding throughout the state and into New Hampshire, in order to spend time with her growing family. She is married to Scott Cummings, and they have two children, Alex 4 1/2 and Lucy 4 months.
Rachel said, “I joined The Charlotte News because I believe it provides a vital service to the town by connecting us to one another through information and stories. I also strongly believe in community service, and this is one way I can help.”
