May Programs at the Charlotte Library: HOP ON IN!
Special Spring Story Times
FROGHOPPING STORY TIME: Thursday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m.
From a peep to a croak, frogs are all around us in the spring. Join us for some fun frog tales, fascinating frog facts and a fantastic frog hunt (weather permitting)…bring your boots!
CIRCUS BIG TOP STORY TIME: Wednesday, May 19, at 10:30 a.m.
Today is Circus Day and we’re celebrating with circus stories and some big top fun, including circus snacks and a trapeze craft. So meet us under the tent, inside or out!
Story Times is suitable for children ages 3 to 5 who are comfortable in a story time setting with or without a parent or caregiver. Registration required; please call the library to sign up: 425-3864.
AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM: DIY ICE CREAM Monday, May 24: 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Yes, ice cream at the library. Really! First we’ll make our own ice cream bowls and then shake, shake, shake some ice cream to go in them, complete with toppings, of course. For children grades 1- 4. Registration required; please call the library to sign up: 425-3864.
DIY CRAFT: STAMP ART & STAMP OUT HUNGER
Thanks to a friendly library patron, we’ve got a great collection of colorful used stamps. To honor the first stamp collection, you can make a stamp mural mosaic: create a picture and then use different stamps to fill in the colors. At the same time, bring canned goods with you to help the library contribute to the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. This annual initiative by the National Association of Letter Carriers contributes to local food banks and food shelves across the country.
TEEN ADVISORY BOARD: Pizza, Pennies & Peace: Monday, May 24, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
If you’ve read Greg Mortenson’s book, Three Cups of Tea, you know about his initiative to promote peace and education in Pakistan. With the “Pennies for Peace” project, we can all share in this “international service-learning program.” Jan Schwarz will join us to explain the details, and we will have copies of Mortenson’s books for you to check out. Open to all middle school and high school students. Please RSVP to the Charlotte Library, 425-3864 or youthservices@charlottepubliclibrary.org.
The Library will be closed on Thursday, April 22, for Professional Development.
Charlotte Residents are linking onto LISTEN UP! VERMONT.
DOWNLOADABLE AUDIO BOOKS
Beginning January 1 through March 31, fifty-five patrons registered and 132 audio books were downloaded. How did they do this? They accessed the library’s website, Charlottepubliclibrary.org and clicked on Listen Up!Vermont. After reading and following the directions, they downloaded books to MP3 players, iPods, and even burned them to CDs. You can do this too, as long as you have a library card.
43 Periodical Subscriptions and Growing
It is thanks to the generosity of our patrons that we offer a wide range of magazines. Most recently Lyn and Dave Perrin donated a number of subscriptions by converting their airline mileage points to subscriptions. Beginning with The Artist’s Magazine right through Vegetarian Times, a wide variety of interests are served. For a complete listing, go to our website.
