The 2010 Charlotte All-Star team played its first game on June 27 and came away with a 12-0 win over Vergennes behind the two-hit pitching of Aidan Powell, a home run by Hinesburg’s Jack Dugan, and very solid play by the rest of the squad. The All-Star roster, which includes older (ages 11-12) Little League players from Charlotte and Hinesburg, has a few changes since announced in the last issue of The Charlotte News. Charlotte players include George Davis, Casey Spicer-Renaud, Aidan Powell, Drew Colgan, Hayden Kjelleren, Wyatt Shea, Finn Simpkins and Somer MacKillop.
The 2010 Little League regular season came to a successful close in June. With two major league teams, three minor league teams, Triple A and T-ball, there were great opportunities to play baseball for boys and girls of all ages. Our combined program with Hinesburg at the minors and majors levels expanded the pool of kids and created many new friendships among the players.
For readers who have never been to the Charlotte Little League (CLL) ball fields tucked away at the Charlotte Berry Farm, there is a Field of Dreams waiting. Mt. Philo hovers over our facility and sets the stage for kids to develop their hitting, fielding and throwing under the watchful eyes of our dedicated coaches and supportive parents. During games the kids sport brightly colored uniforms and play a schedule of games that usually ends around graduation time. It is a shining part of the Charlotte community each spring. The expression in a kid’s eye when he or she gets that first hit or snags that fly ball is priceless.
