Digital Camera Needed
We would love to document the activities that take place at the library and would welcome the donation of a digital camera. Currently we have the most basic Kodak and find it lacking in all respects. If you have a camera to donate, please call us.

Book Review by Georgia Edwards, Circulation Librarian

Very Valentine, Adriana Trigiani

Readers of Adriana Trigiani’s “Big Stone Gap” series will find Very Valentine a warm, contemporary and delightful addition to her previous work. It is the first novel in a planned trilogy about the family-owned Angelini Shoe Company. Matriarch Teodora and her 330-year-old spinstress granddaughter, Valentine, are responsible for bringing the 115-year-old company out of pending financial ruin.
The first chapter pulls the reader in with its depiction of younger sister Jaclyn’s Italian wedding. The scenes at Leonardo’s La Dolce Vita “wedding factory” are pretty hilarious and written with a joy, wit and irreverence. This “big, fat Italian wedding” could be a book in itself. It is a perfect introduction to a colorful and eccentric family.
Within this cast of characters evolves the story of Teodora and Valentine’s struggle to save a dying art in 21st century New York. Their company, a Greenwich Village business since 1903, makes exquisite custom wedding shoes. Aside from the plot, the reader learns about the intricacies of making a shoe by hand.
Underlying Valentine’s story is her romance with master chef, Roman Falconi. Her struggles between personal and family commitments will keep the reader guessing about the course of their relationship and the story’s outcome.
Very Valentine, is an entertaining read. It is light and humorous, but appropriately tones down for the more serious moments. It places the reader in the story. I would recommend it as a sweet treat for these last dreary days of winter.
