Sign up for the Summer Reading Program to keep track of the favorite books (goldbugs) and not-so-great books (stink bugs) you encounter over the summer. Our summer calendar of programs includes everything from bug hunts to ladybug kites to bee hives, so we hope you’ll join us throughout June, July and August.

STEP INTO HISTORY WITH CCS FIFTH GRADE PHOTO PROJECT

The 5th grade classes at Charlotte Central School concluded their Vermont Reads program with a project based on picture by early 20th century photographer and social reformer Lewis Hines. Using Counting on Grace, the 2007 Vermont Reads selection as an inspiration, the students created their own descriptions based photos taken from the National Child Labor Committee Collection. These photos were the inspiration for Elizabeth Winthrop’s novel about Grace, a young girl who ends up fighting against the conditions many of the photos portray. The rotating exhibit, “When a Picture Speaks,” will be on display through the month of June.
