A Sincere Thanks To All
The family of William Dubuc would like to express our appreciation for the prayers and support we have received from family, friends and the communities of Shelburne, Charlotte and Hinesburg after William’s diagnosis of cancer. We are all very thankful that there are so many wonderful people willing to help our son.
We would especially like to acknowledge the following people who have helped to make this difficult time easier to endure:
Father David Cray of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and St. Jude’s Parish, who came to the hospital as soon as he heard of William’s illness. Father David has encouraged William to remain strong in his faith, and his continued visits are very appreciated.
Eileen Curtis, our good friend who has given and continues to give of herself in support of William and our family.
Eileen’s sister, Susan Debrosie, who organized a “card shower” for William, which resulted in William receiving nearly 100 cards from the community. Receiving a card nearly every day after his surgery helped to lift his spirits.
All of William’s young friends and their parents who visited and brought him videos and food.
The members of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Jude’s Parish who have given so much support and love, through meals, gifts, cards, phone calls and especially the prayer shawl and amazing quilt, signed with inspirational messages.
Teachers of CVU High School and the Charlotte Fire Department who remained in contact with our family to check on William’s progress.
Neighbors of the Wild Wood West development who have sent meals and support.
It is impossible for us to thank everyone individually, due to the overwhelming amount of support, so please know that we are thankful to everyone for their prayers, support, generosity and incredible acts of kindness.
As William continues through his second phase of treatment we will find strength in knowing that there are so many people who care and are praying for him.
Suzanne Dubuc

Reunion By E-mail
The Charlotte News was delighted to play a small part recently in reuniting a Charlotte family with its 1986 exchange student from Indonesia.
We received an e-mail on March 23 from Retno Susilowati which said, “During year 1986-1987 I have visited Vermont for one year as a high school student exchange (AFS student) and stayed with Perrin’s family in Charlotte during that time. I wonder if I can re-contact them because I am not sure if they still live in Vermont. During my stay, I studied at Champlain Valley Union High School 1987. My homestay family name is David Perrin, and their children are Cynthia, Henry and Susan. I lost my contact more than 10 years ago and I wish that I can contact them again.”
We forwarded the e-mail to the Perrins and shortly after received this response from Lyn:
“This is the answer to a prayer! I’ve been trying for so long to get back in contact with Susi! How wonderful that she thought of contacting you!!! She sent us an invitation to her wedding; of course we couldn’t go, and we sent her a gift including syrup. The syrup came back to the Charlotte PO spilling all over. I’m sure it was opened by customs (I HAD checked out customs a couple of times...!). I have looked her up on the Internet but could not find her. There are many with this name. Thank you!!”
The Charlotte News receives hundreds of e-mails each week, including stories and pictures from Charlotters, press releases from multiple sources (including those that think we’re located in Charlotte, North Carolina), requests for back articles and advertising information, and, more often than one would imagine, scam attempts. The latter have included classified ads, mostly for puppies, but also for home workers and nannies – including one that slipped by us a couple of weeks ago and actually appeared in the paper. We try to sort the wheat from the chaff in all this e-harvest and were a bit suspicious when the message from Indonesia arrived. Thankfully, it led to a happy reunion.
