Join the Ferry Road Pedestrian Walkway Discussion
November 3, 2011, page 5.....
The Ferry Road Sidewalks Committee invites all interested Charlotters to attend a site visit on Saturday, November 5. Meet at the Town Hall parking lot at 9 a.m. Using the design developed at our work session on October 24 as a guide, we will walk the walk and look for what might be the best route for a proposed pedestrian walkway along Ferry Road from Greenbush Road to Route 7. The route will be marked so you can compare and assess design variations that preserve trees, allow for parking spaces and crosswalks, avoid sensitive areas and mitigate hazardous situations. Please join us and share your ideas.
To follow up on the site walk, the Sidewalks Committee will hold a community discussion on November 10 at 7 p.m. at the Senior Center. At this meeting we will review suggested design alternatives and address questions such as:
• Should the pathway be crushed gravel, cement or asphalt?
• What material should be used where the pathway crosses existing driveways?
• What traffic calming methods can be incorporated into the plan?
• What are the estimated costs associated with different options and what funding sources are available?
The committee hopes the information gathered from these two meetings, previous work sessions, surveys and our own research will enable it to develop a preferred plan to be proposed to the Selectboard at its December 12 meeting. We expect to have the full report, including cost estimates and recommended funding opportunities, available to the public prior to December 12.
We look forward to a robust discussion on November 10. Refreshments will be served.
If you are unable to attend, please feel free to contact any committee member with suggestions or questions. The Sidewalks Committee can be contacted at townofcharlotte.sidewalks@gmail.com.
