It Was a Beautiful Day at the Polls
August 26, 2010, page 1.....

As we went to press Tuesday night we did not have final results of the primary election. The race for State Representative was close between Mike Yantachka and Charles Russell who, with Mike Kurt, spent the whole day greeting voters at the polls.

Results were posted on this website when tabulation was finalized later in the evening, announcing that Mike Yantachka was the winner by 55 votes of the Democratic nomination for State Representative. See article on Primary Results.

A total of 1,020 Charlotters turned out to vote, 35% of the 2,896 registered. This compares to the then record turnout ten years ago, when 32% of registered voters in Charlotte turned out for the September 12, 2000, Primary Election, with 305 choosing the Democratic ballot and 500 the Republican. In that year, Democrats chose Howard Dean for Governor, Doug Racine for Lieutenant Governor and Deb Markowitz for Secretary of State. Republicans gave the nod to Brian Dubie for Lieutenant Governor and James Douglas for State Treasurer. The vote for Governor was split 50/50 between Ruth Dwyer and William Meub.
