It’s the best time to give. . .

From the Board of The Charlotte News:
Dear Fellow Charlotter,
“Always ask how local needs might be supplied from local sources, including the mutual help of neighbors,” Wendell Berry suggests in his much-quoted “17 Rules for A Sustainable Economy.”
For 53 years, The Charlotte News has lived up to this ideal, serving as a locally owned, not-for-profit organization serving to inform, educate, connect, amuse and often delight readers in every household and business in our town.
This is the one time of year that The Charlotte News humbly calls upon the mutual help of neighbors to help it continue as the voice of our community.
More than ever, this year’s Annual Summer Fundraiser will be vitally important in ensuring the future of The News, as an independent, citizen-run, volunteer-powered community paper.
Although the printed word is threatened in large city newspapers across the country, The Charlotte News is committed to continuing a paper to every mailbox in town. In addition, we are now embarking a new Web Initiative that will completely revamp the News website.
The new News site will offer a much richer and more user-friendly reading experience, with breaking news and community notes constantly updated, new interactive features, online photo contests and free classifieds for individuals looking to buy, sell or barter with their neighbors. It will, for the first time, have a full Digital Edition of each issue for reading, saving or forwarding to friends. Real-time updates on important happenings will be e-mailed to those who wish to receive e-mail hotline news.
It will also have a growing archive of past issues and, we hope, become a living history of Charlotte and Charlotters, a real resource for everyone from our current generation of students to future local historians.
Wendell Berry advises communities to invest in themselves and never to forget the value of neighborly acts, and this is our chance to do just that.
Please give whatever you can – every gift, however large or small, is tremendously appreciated. We promise to return your support with a full year of unique news, images and connections to your friends and neighbors that are available nowhere else. A few good belly laughs and perhaps some gossip-worthy tidbits are sure to included.
Every donation, large or small, will be gratefully received and reinvested in keeping The Charlotte News our town’s most vocal, most local voice strong.
Thanks so much for your support!
