New lights brighten the food shelf.
Thank you, Steve Spadaccini, for installing lights at the Food Shelf! The new lights make the space a bright and inviting place. Thanks to Laura O’Brien, Will Burhans, Nancy Pricer and SCHIP for all the time and energy to make these improvements possible.

Feinstein Challenge matches April gifts.
Thanks to those who have participated in the Feinstein Challenge Grant to date:
Donna and Remo Pizzagalli, Mary Jane Spooner, Deb Cook, Joseph Dickerman, J. Louis Cox, Ruah Swennerfelt, Shelburne Supermarket, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel members for their food drive and Charlotte Library patrons for non-perishable food items. Donated food collected by way of food drives or collected at drop off sites is valued as a $1 donation per item for the Feinstein match. All donations to the Charlotte Food Shelf through the end of April are eligible for matching funds through the Feinstein Foundation.
Founded in 1991 by Alan Shawn Feinstein, the Feinstein Foundation is dedicated to the alleviation of hunger, the importance of community service in education and the values of caring, compassion and brotherhood. In the past 13 consecutive years since Mr. Feinstein has offered it, over 3,000 participating agencies nationwide have used the challenge to raise over $1.25 billion. It has become the most successful ongoing campaign to fight hunger ever. If you were considering a donation to the Charlotte Food Shelf, this would be an excellent time to make your donation even more helpful in our community.

You may mail donations to: Charlotte Food Shelf & Assistance,
c/o 3319 Mt. Philo Road,
Charlotte, VT 05445.

The Charlotte Food Shelf and Assistance, located on the lower level of the Charlotte Congregational Church vestry, is open from 7:30-9 a.m. on the following Thursdays for food distribution: April 14 and 28, May 12 and 26. Please remember when Charlotte Central School is closed, the Food Shelf is closed as well.
We are open to all community residents. Privacy is very important and respected in our mission of neighbor helping neighbor. All non-perishable food donations may be dropped off at the Charlotte Library, The Charlotte Congregational Church vestry, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (main entrance) or at the Food Shelf during the distribution mornings.

Plant a Row for the Food Shelf

As you plan your gardens this spring, please see if you can set aside one row to harvest for the Charlotte Food Shelf. The Sunday school children of The Charlotte Congregational Church will be handing out free seeds on May 15 this year to encourage people to Plant-A-Row for our Charlotte Food Shelf. It made a big difference for the food shelf last year and we would like to encourage this again. Vermont’s High Mowing Organic Seed Company has again generously donated the seeds for this Plant-A-Row initiative from our church.
The kids have also started some tomato, onion, and pepper seeds and hope to have some free plants to give out on May 15th as well. The seeds and plants will be handed out by the children after the service on May 15, around 11 a.m., outdoors at the front of the church. Any questions can be directed to Elizabeth Berger at cccsundayschool@gmavt.net. Thanks for helping us grow vegetables for our local food shelf.
