Food Shelf News

The Charlotte Food Shelf annual meeting took place on September 14 and two new volunteers were welcomed to the Food Shelf Team. Nancy Bloch and Lisa Beal will be managing the monthly deliveries from the Vermont Foodbank. They’ll be taking over for Meredith Moses and Jane Becker, who have been Food Shelf volunteers for several years. We are so thankful for their years of reliable and faithful service.
Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity? The Food Shelf needs an additional volunteer to help with shopping trips to Costco. For more information contact Karen at 425-3252.
Thanksgiving food basket setup day is Friday, November 20, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Congregational Church. If you would like to help, please contact Marilyn Holmberg at 425-3469 or e-mail holmbergmarilyn@yahoo.com  We look forward to seeing you!
Mitten tree volunteers are needed. Mittens and gloves will be included with the December Holiday Food Baskets. If you are interested in contributing handmade or purchased mittens or gloves, look for details in the next Food Shelf Update. (Note: The December Holiday Baskets will be set up on Friday, December 19).
The Shoe in Program is up and running at CCS. Parents can contact school counselors Diane Downer and Helen Niedermeir for grant assistance.
Thanks to Cindi Robinson, the Food Shelf now has school supplies and healthy snacks to help get children off to a good start at school. Thanks to Nancy Calcagni, Anne Fortin and everyone else who donated veggies this summer. Thanks to Robin Reid for organizing a Food Drive at the Acoustic Folk Jam held at the Old Lantern on September 18.
Thanks to Laura Idlehart, coordinator of a program called “Hand Me Down” for children’s clothes. She does a great job matching clothes and kids. Thanks to everyone who has been supporting the program. If you have school-aged children and would like to participate or assist, please email Laura at LCIsearch@aol.com
Thanks to Jim Manchester for the two bushels of new potatoes from his garden, to Betsi Fox for donating a big bag of butternut squash and to the Charlotte Organic Coop for donating food.
