Food Shelf News

April 8, 2010, page 14.....

Our wish list this month: jam, jelly, peanut butter, crackers, healthy after-school snacks for kids. Thank you if you can donate any of these items!
On March 25 six volunteers helped to distribute perishable and non-perishable food and taxable items to 17 households that numbered 50 individuals. Thanks to Will Raszka for six dozen homemade bagels that were snapped up like hot cakes. Thanks to William Hall for Hannaford shopping.
Thanks for the support from Lisa Beal, Shirley Bean and all the coffee and tea sippers from the Shelburne Supermarket. And thank you, David Caccavo, for assistance with the Food Shelf computer!
The quarterly report to the Food Bank shows an increase in the number of individuals using the Food Shelf, reflecting an increased average family size. (Call 999-9636 if you have any questions about this.)
A friendly reminder: we are participating in the Feinstein Challenge Grant again this year. Donations to the Charlotte Food Shelf through the end of April are eligible for matching funds through the Feinstein Foundation. For 12 years, Allen Feinstein, a Rhode Island philanthropist, has donated $1 million annually to anti-hunger agencies through his nonprofit foundation. But he requires some participation on the agency’s part. Each year this challenge has had tremendous results. Last year 1,700 organizations took part, raising $197 million for the hungry. And since the foundation issued the first call a dozen years ago, 2,000-plus agencies have raised more than $1 billion. If you are considering a donation to the Charlotte Food Shelf, this would be an excellent time to make your donation even more helpful in our community.

Donations may be mailed to: Charlotte Food Shelf & Assistance,  c/o 3319 Mt. Philo Road,                                               Charlotte, Vermont, 05445.

All food donations may be dropped off at the Charlotte Congregational Church vestry, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church (main entrance) or at the Food Shelf during the distribution mornings.

The Charlotte Food Shelf is located on the lower level of the Charlotte Congregational Church vestry.

It is open from 7:30-9 a.m. on the following Thursdays: April 8 and 22, May 13 and 27.

For emergency food call Lisa at 425-2952.
For more information call Karen at 425-3252.
