Fire and Rescue Volunteers Have Busy Sunday
February 25,2010
by Nancy Wood
February 21 was a busy day for the Charlotte Volunteer Fire and Rescue crews.
They were the first on the scene to help a man who fell through the ice a half-mile out on Shelburne Bay Sunday morning. The man had been able to pull himself out and was fine.
Later in the day they put out a fire in a chicken coop on 1627 Dorset Street, where the Hinesburg Fire Department joined them. There was no damage to the nearby house, but unfortunately the chickens were lost and the coop was destroyed.
Use caution if you venture out on the ice. Fire and Rescue warns that no ice is safe ice and suggests always carrying self-extraction tools. Ice safety picks are available for purchase at the Fire Station for $18. Call the station at 425-3111 for more information.
