Fall Activities Abound at Senior Center
Fall Activities Abound at Senior Center
by Mary Recchia, Activities Coordinator

Thank you to all the Charlotte Central School seventh and eighth graders and accompanying parents who participated in Lending a Hand to help seniors in our community with fall chores. You are the hands and hearts of our future. When it’s your turn to sit in the cafe seats, not as a 13-year-old, but as an 83-year-old, we hope you will look back on your life of service with pride and honor.
Please note the additions to the November calendar listed below.
Our Special Thanksgiving Dinner, with all the traditional fixings, will be on November 19. There’s unlimited seating for this meal, but reservations are requested by Friday, November 14.
To conclude our Vermont Reads collaboration, Jim and Kathy Manchester will lead an informal Book Discussion of A Restless Spirit: The Story of Robert Frost by Natalie Bober at 7 p.m. on November 11 at the Charlotte Library. Bring your book, questions and favorite poems to share as we delve into Frost’s life and work. Please call the library for more information at 425-3864.  Light refreshments will be provided. Also, the seventh and eighth grade students at CCS invite you to a culminating exhibit, “Explorations of Robert Frost” in the art room and atrium on November 19 at 10:30 a.m. Come and enjoy brief presentations and student work made by the Robert Frost student study group.
Celebrating local creativity and fine artistry, the Charlotte Artisan Sale provides a unique selection of fine art and crafts by local artists of all ages. Support local artists and the Charlotte Senior Center while doing this year’s holiday shopping on Saturday, November 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The café will be open to enhance your shopping pleasure.
“Survive and Thrive the Holidays” with experienced health educator and hypnotherapist, Samuel Lurie. This workshop series will help you learn how to reduce stress and feel happier by building up positive thoughts and beliefs. The process will increase your ability to relax and manage stressful situations. It will also help you identify some specific ways to alleviate tension. Use self-hypnosis to reduce stress and boost joy! Tuesdays, 9:30 -10:30 a.m., November 25, December 2, December 9. Registration required: $10 per session or $25 for all three.
Our glorious Senior Luncheons are held every Wednesday at noon. Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling the Senior Center at 425-6345. A $4 donation is requested to help cover costs. Those who do not wish to share lunch with us are welcome to drop in around 1 p.m. to enjoy the after lunch offerings.
11/12: FLU CLINIC with Pat Wright from the Wellness Office.
The requirements for receiving a shot are: being age 65+, having a Medicare/Medicaid card and/or a long-term health issue.
11/19: Intercoastal Waterway with Dale Hyerstay. Join Dale Hyerstay on a pictorial trip down the Intercoastal Waterway. The actual trip took place last winter when the Hyerstays joined their friends, the Brodys, in returning their trawler to Florida on a 640-mile leg of the journey from Solomons Island in the Chesapeake Bay to Savannah, Georgia.
