Soccer, cross country and field hockey join football, which has been practicing for a week now, as fall sports’ schedules near at CVU. The fastest growing of the high school sports, football, started as a club seven years ago, now has a varsity and two JV teams fielding 90 players. Likewise, the other three sports draw heavily on a growing core of student athletes.

Kjellerens win triatholon.
Hayden Kjelleren, fresh from playing a leading role in Charlotte Little League’s success this summer, slipped on running shoes and won the 14 and younger division of the RaceVermont.com Sprint Triathlon III. His father Don topped all men in the 40-44 age category.

Lowrey sits tight, takes hold on Thunder Road.
What do Barre, Vermont, and Bruce Springsteen’s New Jersey have in common? Why, Thunder Road, of course. Charlotte’s Rich Lowrey knows the Vermont version well. Racing his late-model stock car, he placed fourth recently in the ACE Hardware Night feature. Graniteville’s John Donohue scored a second straight win after driving his way up from a 10th place start.
