Cross-Country Skiing Starts Today at CCS
by Deb Stone, Recreation Director
1/14/10

Happy New Year to everyone! Wasn’t the snow such a beautiful beginning to 2010? I hope you are finding ways to be active this winter and/or are planning activities for another season.

Cross-country skiing: CCS students who want to stay after school to ski around the school grounds and go up and down the big hill can sign up for a group on Thursdays, January 14, 21 and 28 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Each participant needs equipment, outdoor gear, a snack and a water bottle and is expected to be outside the whole time. Spots are limited based on the number of volunteers, so sign up early. More volunteers are always welcome. Recreation has a couple of sets of skis and poles available to use on a first-come first-served basis (no boots available at this time). If frigid temperatures cause a cancellation, days will be made up in February. Registration fee is $20 for all three days. If you have good working cross-country equipment you would like to donate, please call the Recreation Office.

Skiing at Smuggler’s Notch: We are teaming up with Hinesburg for Sunday discounted ski lift tickets at Smuggler’s Notch again this year. The dates are January 31, February 7 and 28, March 7 and 14. You can score youth lift tickets for $13 and adult for $25. Forms and more information are available on the town website and at the Town Hall.

Basketball: Basketball season is off and running at CCS. There are teams for boys and girls in grades 3-6. Practices are in the evenings, and most games are on Saturday mornings. If you would like to catch a game, check out the schedule on the town website. Adult pick-up games are two nights a week, Mondays from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesdays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the CCS gym.

Soccer: Are you planning your summer? North American Soccer Camps (formerly Major League Soccer Camps) will run a soccer camp here in Charlotte July 19-23. There will be half-day and full-day options. More detailed information will be available in the next month.
