Just a reminder that the Genealogy Group will NOT meet on October 6. See you all at 1 p.m. on November 3.

The center is pleased to host the American Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, October 6, from 2-7 p.m. The comfortable atmosphere and great snacks make giving the “Gift of Life” at this site most pleasurable.

The Monday Munch crew will NOT be cooking on Monday, October 10, in honor of Columbus Day. They will return on October 17. Always healthful, delicious and homemade, each menu will offer a fresh salad and a choice of soup or special creation, bread, beverage and dessert. Reservations not required. Suggested donation: $4.

The last Fall Hike in the Champlain Valley with Marty Morrissey will be on Tuesday, October 18, to Niquette State Park, 9 a.m. departure. This park is on the road to the Lake Champlain Islands. The hike starts at a parking lot where there are numerous trail choices. Some are relatively easy grade and some are steep on stairs cut into the ridges. We will follow each to views of Mallets Bay, the islands, beaches and coves. A full description of each trip and the degree of difficulty is available at the host desk. Please bring water, food and good hiking or walking shoes for departure from the Senior Center. Registration required. No fee. Please note: Trip #4 scheduled for Tuesday, October 11, to Hurricane Mountain in New York is canceled.

A Flu Clinic run by the Visiting Nurse Association will be held on Thursday, October 20, from 1-3 p.m. The requirements for receiving a shot at this clinic are: being 18 years of age or older and having Medicare B card, Medicaid card or $30 cash or check.

Pastel Painting with Shirley Reid-Thompson begins on Thursday afternoons from 12:30-3 p.m. Dates: 10/27, 11/3, 11/10 and 11/17. Emphasis will be on pastel painting techniques. Color theory will be explained and used in your paintings. We will work from real life set-ups except for one afternoon when we will use photographs. We can do mixed media, watercolor and pastel. If requested, we can do individual contrast composition with color layering. Call Shirley at 425-3444 for a materials list. All levels of skill are welcome. Registration required. Limit: 10. Fee: $100.

Events following the Wednesday Luncheon begin at approximately 1 p.m.:
10/12: An Invitation to Try Chair Yoga with Tiny Sikkes
Chair yoga is a form of yoga designed to benefit anyone with physical limitations by enhancing their mobility, balance and peace of mind. Tiny decided to become a yoga teacher and share the benefits she experienced 15 years ago, after practicing for many years. Yoga taught her to relax, strengthen and be aware of her body and to accept its limitations. It helped clear her mind and cope with stress. Her class at the Senior Center, now in its fourth year, meets one hour per week. A chair is used for seated and standing poses, breathing exercises are included, and class finishes with a deep relaxation. It is wonderful for her to hear how important the classes become to her students, a highlight of the week. Come give it a try.

10/19: Haunted Hikes of Vermont with Tim Simard
As a self-proclaimed skeptic, Tim had always enjoyed a good campfire tale, but he never believed they were true until he began his research for his book, Haunted Hikes of Vermont, which resulted in a few of his own haunted experiences. Join Tim as he combines hiking, history and storytelling with a wonderfully engaging slideshow, exploring the ghostly sounds and sightings that may be found on the trail.
